MIZZOU PANKRATION TEAM
Designated "Champion Team" by the World Pankration Federation

Team Drills Welcome! The Mizzou Pankration Team is a group trained to compete in full-contact mixed martial arts competition. We train members in a system of integrated striking and grappling tactics, utilizing strategies to effectively win the match in as little time as possible. We are NOT a "free-style" group of people who simply come in and do their own thing. We will train you for competition. Previous skills are helpful, but most of our members are new to the combat sports.

Tournament, March 2002 Members are expected to work and live under a code of honor, integrity, loyalty, honesty, humility, perseverance, respect and fortitude. The key to success is knowledge, motivation, proper attitude and self-discipline. Through blood, sweat and tears you will gain invaluable skills, experience, build character and feel the pride that knowing everything you have, you have earned.

Jim Arvanitis, Father of Modern Pankration The team is opened to men and women, new and experienced. All members are taught Pankration history and mythology, from its development in the ancient Olympics to the modern movement, from the regeneration of pankration by Jim Arvanitis (right) in the 1960's to today. Classes consist of rigorous physical training, technique drills and development, heavy bag & speed bag drills, mat-work, strategy building, sparring, physical and mental conditioning, calisthenics and flexibility training.

Greek statue (400-300 B.C.) The top mounted pankratiast applies an arm lock on his downed foe while preparing to reign an onslaught of punches to the head Once the King of Olympic Sports, pankration (Greek for "all powers") is enjoying a well deserved rebirth as the ultimate combat sport of modern times. Designed to encompass all aspects of personal combat in a format that reflects reality as closely as a responsible sense of safety allows, pankration offers martial athletes the opportunity to use the techniques of their disciplines in competition with athletes of other sport combat disciplines, and facilitates the enhancement of martial skills through exposure to, and cross training in, the variety of disciplines represented.

No matter what your discipline or training background, the Mizzou Pankration Team welcomes you, and invites you to be a part of the most exciting martial sport of the future.

The Mizzou Pankration Team is the head sponsorship organization of "Collegiate Pankration", a division of the World Pankration Federation.
