MIZZOU PANKRATION RANK REQUIREMENTS
Rankings in WPF Pankration are not based on knowledge of techniques. Ranking is based soley on success in tournaments, time training, knowledge of the history of pankration as well as WPF certifications as a coach and referee. Points are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in selected tournaments. The higher the tournament, the greater the points are worth (local tourney vs. regionals and World Championships).
Local Tournaments
1st place: 5 points
2nd place: 4 points
3rd place: 3 points
Regional/State Tournaments
1st place: 6 points
2nd place: 5 points
3rd place: 4 points
National Tournaments
1st place: 7 points
2nd place: 6 points
3rd place: 5 points
World Championships
1st place: 9 points
2nd place: 8 points
3rd place: 7 points
The ranks are as follows:
Arharios (beginner)
All students begin at the beginner level. This corresponds to the student's initial training in MMA (mixed martial arts) which includes striking and grappling tactics.
Diamesos (intermediate)
One year experience in MMA
9 points accumulated in tournaments
Ability to count in Greek and have a basic knowledge of pankration history and mythology.
Pepeiramenos (experienced/advanced)
Two years experience in MMA
18 points accumulated in tournaments, including at least three total 1st place winnings
Referee certification
Polemistis (warrior)
Three years experience in MMA
27 points accumulated in tournaments, including at least five total 1st place winnings and at least one competition on the Regional, National or World level.
Coach certification
Formal Paper on the complete history of Pankration (>10 pages)
Protathlitis (champion)
Four or more years experience in MMA
40 points accumulated in tournaments, including at least eight total 1st place winnings and at least one competition on the National or World level.
Protathlitis Pankratos Amaxa (Champion Pankration Coach)
Successful coaching of team with total team earnings* of 60 or more points for 2-4 years of competition (ie. 2000-2004). *See below.
Team Winnings
Each tournament, the WPF will award the top three teams in total winnings. The following team winning points are as follows.
Local Tournaments
1st place: 10 points
2nd place: 8 points
3rd place: 6 points
Regional/State Tournaments
1st place: 15 points
2nd place: 13 points
3rd place: 11 points
National Tournaments
1st place: 20 points
2nd place: 18 points
3rd place: 16 points
World Championships
1st place: 25 points
2nd place:23 points
3rd place: 21 points
